Featured film captures work in progress of a permanent wall mural titled “Our Global Connections”.

Contemporary conceptual artist Chitra Ramanathan was chosen to create this wall mural painting as artist in residence. The project involved creating a large-scale wall mural for the front lobby of Creek Elementary School, Marion County Indianapolis, Indiana U.S.A, to represent the international focus of the school. Chitra started by painting the base, while each student was allotted a portion to paint or stick collage material to represent icons from different parts of the world. All 505 students from Kindergarten to grade 5 was given a chance to know and work with the artist. After all students had contributed, Chitra worked to unify the painting in her unique textural abstract style that is typical of her extensive, known body of work, without altering the students’ contribution. To quote the art teacher in charge of related administration, “Students had so much fun working on the mural!” The final piece measures 13.8 feet wide and 4 feet high and was created between March and April 2008. This site-specific public art commission made possible by a grant to the school by the Washington Township School Foundation, Indiana. It was completed April 5, 2008.

Says a recent collector of Chitra’s painting who is an art connoisseur and a former staffer of the Indianapolis Museum of Art, “I first met Chitra when I took her classes at the Indianapolis Art Center. I wanted a painting by Chitra because I like the feeling her abstract work evokes. I like the way her paintings make me feel and think; and I like how she communicates so much with a subtle use of color or a tiny brush stroke…..There is so much in our world today that can be considered “negative”, that I like art around me that offers hope and that reaches for joy. Trivia

Two of her large-scale paintings are permanently displayed and owned by the College of Medicine at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, USA since 1995.

Her first solo exhibition in the U.S was hosted by the ARC Gallery and Educational Foundation at Chicago in 1994. This major exhibition featured her paintings as well as sculptures and prints. The Chicago exhibition was followed by shows at different art galleries on Broadway, New York from 1995-1998.

She coined the phrase “formless forms” to describe her visual depiction of happiness, an emotion of the mind, in her extensive body of colorful paintings with myriad textures. Calls her images of happiness “formless forms”, while portraying that emotion of the mind as a visual entity.

She was awarded the Liquitex “Excellence in Art” Product Grants for two consecutive years (1994 and 1995) from Binney and Smith Inc., makers of Crayola crayons.

Has spent time painting and drawing entire days in Paris, France that inspired her current work. The major influence for her current body of work stemmed from keenly observing the gardens from inside the Claude Monet House during visits to Giverny. Her favorite painting, The Waterlily Pond, 1897.

The Indianapolis Artsgarden was the venue of the most recent solo exhibition of her signature paintings.

To date, most of her signature style paintings have got sold to collectors in the state of California.

Has taught courses and workshops in Acrylic painting and Mixed media painting at the Indianapolis Art Center since 2004.

Her biography is listed in the national directory Who’s Who in America 2008.

Her 1998 and 2000 originals titled “A Momentary Glance”, and “Coruscation” respectively, were the originals works upon which two large-scale paintings on canvas signed by the artist were created for MGM Mirage for the Bellagio, Las Vegas in 2004. “Coruscation”, a mixed-media painting on canvas measuring 18 inches X 24 inches, is owned by an Indianapolis based collector who acquired it in 2006. Artprice Auction House, France hosts her images.

Has created drawings and paintings throughout her childhood and adolescent years. Began drawing and painting from the age of four. When Chitra Ramanathan was a child, she practically drew everything that she “could see out of her window”. She drew the faces of random people as well as that of her parents’ friends. When she was just twelve years old, her watercolor painting was showcased in recognition of her talent at the Birla Academy of Art and Culture, Kolkata, India, in addition to being presented a silver trophy through the Philips India Ltd. “Parichay” Child Art Competition at an award function at the venue.

She was awarded a prize in the form of a camera at the age of ten through a national child art competition by Hindustan Unilever Ltd., India.

Has received several awards from art competitions throughout her growing years. Created portraits and landscapes throughout her childhood.

Tracey Emin’s Fiat 500 Collectors’ Cars Part 2

Tracey Emin has illustrated four of the new Fiat 500s cars in her highly recognisable signature style to celebrate art related events taking place during October 2007.

In her commission for Fiat 500, the cars take Emin’s work quite literally out of the gallery and onto the street. As such, the cars have become mobile canvases — and Emin has created the first ‘moving’ exhibition of its kind.

The fleet of four cars have individually been named as:
• You go around me
• Love is Love
• Dark Dark Dark
• I told you not to
— and will be seen around significant London locations and art-related events throughout the next week.

One car in this series was auctioned at the Contemporary Art Auction at Phillips de Pury in Victoria on 13th Oct. Proceeds from the sale went to Emin’s chosen charity, PEAS — to raise funds for a school library in Uganda. Additional funds will also help establish ongoing Fiat Art Projects in London. International Darts in Banagher !!

This is a selection of photos taken in Banagher Co.Offaly Ireland during a ‘friendly’ darts match between a group of locals and a dutch group who travelled to Banagher for the weekend.The day was a great success and it concluded with an ‘auction’ for the dutch players clogs. The result was that over 400 euros was raised for Brother Brian Johnsons School project in Kenya. The Dutch players then generously pledged to match the amount raised and therefore over 800 euros are winging its way to Brother Brian! Well done to all concerned!

Craft Project/Fundraiser??

I am looking for projects for a co-ed high school youth group. We’re looking for things to make that we can then sell or auction off to raise money for a summer camp for kids with cancer. We’re having a Bingo fundraiser and looking to have some additional items available to raise some extra money. Any ideas?? So far we have the following ideas: painted pots, knitted scarf, fabric covered notebooks, cookie in a jar kits. Help!! Our event is a month away!!

Over the past serval years, I have been working on a Type III Project at my school FQMS, and now at GHS, in Howard County, MD. A type three project is a project that you may do for a year or more, and you explore the topic you selected. My topic is the Victory Junction Gang Camp (VJGC). Victory Junction Gang Camp states their mission as follows: “The Victory Junction Gang Camp enriches the lives of children with chronic medical conditions or serious illnesses by providing life-changing camping experiences that are exciting, fun, and empowering, in a safe and medically sound environment.”

I’m in the fabric painting club in my in school and we have this huge auction coming up on Friday and so we have to submit our work in by Thursday and whoever doesn’t will be kicked out of the club!! I really love being in that club so i really don’t want to be kicked out!! Now my problem is i don’t know what to paint and i have to give it up by tomorrow! So if anyone of you guys knows any site where i can get good fabric painting pictures or ideas please tell me… or if you have any with you at home please can you e-mail it to me at ash_govo94@yahoo.com!! just use swirls of color, it doesnt have to be a picture, just stick to a color family and let your imagination go.

Name for art project (see details)?

I had to decorate a plain stool for an auction at my school in the style of an artist. I chose Leo Sewell, a little known artist who uses found objects. I painted the chair secondary colors (mostly purple) and I’m now covering the legs in found objects (you know, old Happy Meal toys, broken crayons, buttons, doll blankets, etc.). Now I have to make up a name. Any ideas? Thanks!

Butterflies and Friends

Is a project of the Colorado Springs Colorado Rotary Club. Butterfly templates are fabricated and provided to volunteer participating artists to apply their artistic talent. The butterflies are placed on public display throughout Colorado Springs during the summer months, and in the fall an evening auction is conducted to sell then. The primary proceeds for 2008 will be provided to School District 11 to help re-establish an art program for Queen Palmer Elementary School.

The butterfly was purchased by the Cheyenne Mt Zoo…. This is where she lives now

I have to help plan a charity ball for my high school club called Helping Humanity. It is for next March and the theme is HOLLYWOOD. Do you think a movie theater would donate some movie posters for decoration? We are also looking for anyone who would like to sponser a few tables or donate decorations, or prizes for our silent auction raffle baskets! Walmart has a lot of posters you could use for that it want cost much, you might get them involved also, especially with the charity you have picked out, visit alot of businesses, also contact the chamber of commerce, they may help and they may know other people that might like to help, good luck, and God Bless!!
