School Auction Blog

Everything about school auctions

Well the question above is really straight forward. I just need a way to fund-raise 1,000 dollars to buy toys for the chairty. I was thinking of a fashion show, or a bake sale, car wash, or auction, but i want something even better. I don’t want to buy any fund-raise packages. Does anyone have anything that they know will give me alot of profit? Thank you for your time.

Do a garage sale!!!!! I raised over 1000 bucks for my girl scout troop, in just one garage sale! Get a ton of your friends to donate stuff that they do not want, like clothes, DVDs, cds, old baby toys. Then look through your bedroom for things that you do not want. And ask your parents for things that they don’t want. Get in a car. Put signs everywhere with arrows pointing towards your house. And set everything up! Make sure you set up really, really early, like 6 oclock. Thats when all of the old ladies go "garage saleing" You could also do a car wash with a bunch of friends, make sure your signs say why you are doing a car wash or garage sale. It will make people feel bad for you if you are trying to raise money.
Hope I helped! Good Luck! :)

I am trying to find e-mail addresses of celebrities to try and get signed photos etc to raffle or auction to raise money for a care of the elderly ward in a hospital which badly needs new equipment. Many of our patients have no relatives so come into hospital without even the basic toiletries and so we want to buy nice soaps, toothpaste etc for them to have. Any help to raise money or any suggestions would be fantastic does anyone have any suggestions.

The last hospital fundraiser i was involved with we had a big bar b que, 5 bucks a plate, had a dunk a doc booth, a soft ball throwing contest, a bedpan toss, sold hospital t shirts for 20 bucks we had a face painter and balloon clown, and had a blast. a small blue grass band volunteered, people even danced..it was great!

Our school will be having it’s annual auction fundraiser and I’m looking for some clever ideas for the live auction that are inexpensive or even free.

We have
- Police Escort to School (the good kind)
- Spirit Basket (w/ school clothes and tickets to upcoming events, yearbook, etc.)

Any clever ideas that your school/group has thought of?

Thanks so much!
We also have
- Principal for a day

Hey there, Jessica…GREAT question!

Hey there!

I’ve been heavily involved with nonprofit fund raising for years….so here are some ideas I have that could be relatively low in cost for your cause…

1) As far as items go in your area, here are my thoughts:

-try to think of items that your attendants will already WANT before they set foot in your event, instead of items that they could talk themselves into once they get there…bids will definitely be higher for these items
-anything that your group can make is always unique…think pottery, quilts, pillows, painting a martini set, etc…
-head to local businesses that are NOT chains…they’ll be easier to negotiate with and will have less red tape to get through…plus they’ll want the free advertising for being a donor in your auction
-see if a local liquor store will donate a "Beer a Month", grocery stores can donate "3 Months of Groceries", gas stations can give a certain amt of gas, coffee shops can donate coffee items and cups of coffee, local florists can do "Flower of the Month", etc….
-literally comb through your phone book and think of packages that they can give and then propose that, rather than just saying "Could you donate something?" If they can’t donate your proposed package, they’ll suggest a gift certificate.

2) In addition to your silent/live auction, consider running an online auction – this is an AWESOME way to get to the people whose mailing addresses you don’t have (ie you’ve got their EMAILS)…your email base can feel like they’re using their expendable income on great stuff AND its going to their community at the same time!
I’ve included a link of one of the online auction companies that I’ve worked with…cMarket. They also have another website, BiddingforGood.com, that opens your auction up to all their members so that people who you don’t even know can donate to your cause and bid on your items!

5) One last tid bit – consider selling sponsorships for your event…this can help off set some of your cost INCREDIBLY. You’d be surprised how many local businesses want to be a part of your cause-minded event! You can ask for anywhere around $500 per sponsor, and if you put your auction online, you can ask for even more than that because they’ll be getting just that much more exposure through your website and event emails!

Best of luck with all of this! :)

Tecumseh High School, New Carlisle Ohio. The final and last pictures of the old school being demolished to make way for the new parking lot and entrance of our newly built school. The pictures were taken during the High School Auction in June 2007 until late August 2007. I invite all Tecumseh Alumni to enjoy this final tribute and share it with others. GO ARROWS!

A hospital in my neighborhood has recently added a new children’s wing, and for my gold award I was thinking of doing something where I would have pediatric patients create some form of art (a painting, clay, a drawing, etc.) and auctioning them off or having a raffle for them at some event. Then I would use the money I raise to buy toys or books to donate to the hospital.

1. Do you think this is a good idea/anyone would be willing to buy them?
2. Do you have any ideas as to where I could hold the auction or raffle? I was thinking somewhere like a PTA event at the elementary school or something like that.

Thanks! :)

It’s a GREAT idea. I wouldn’t raffle them off though. I’d do the auction. People will definitely buy art from sick kids.
